Lunch at Pau

Just before returning to East Hawaii for Hilo’s “Tsunami-Saturday” last week, we finally stopped at Pau in Waimea for lunch.

Pau is located just across the parking lot from Merriman’s, one of our favorite special occasion restaurants.  Before going in to order, we took a few minutes to walk through Merriman’s garden, identifying herbs and plants that I wouldn’t have been able to name just a few years ago!

Service at Pau is casual–you order at the counter and the staff brings the food to your table.  The atmosphere, spiced up with nice art and music at just the right background volume, was laid-back and friendly.  We shared the Superfood Salad (with quinoa, brown rice, edamame, grapes and spiced nuts) and the Roast Chicken with Vegetables, plenty for lunch for two.  We were impressed with the vibe and the food was good…we’ll definitely be going back!

Pau has a website with their pizza menu and their pupus/salads/specialties.

I love Pau’s Superfood Salad! But gee whiz, now you’ve gone and told everybody about Waimea’s best kept yummy lunch secret. :0)

Isn’t that the Catch-22 of blogging about the Big Island! I thought about writing about my favorite Kohala coast beach, but some things…should remain a mystery!
