Signs of the Season in South Kohala

November 19, 2010
Anna Ranch Heritage Center poinsettias

The poinsettias are just beginning to turn red at Anna Ranch

Each morning, on my drive up Kawaihae Road in Waimea (aka Kamuela, if you ask the U.S. Post Office), I pass by Anna Ranch Heritage Center. This is the time of year when the poinsettias in front of the long rock wall at the front of the property begin to turn from green to red.  Passing by the Ranch and getting a brief glance at nature’s Advent calendar brings me the same sense instantaneous calm joy as stepping onto a white sand Kohala coast beach. If you’ve ever felt that kind of peace upon arriving at a beach on a beautiful tropical island, you know exactly what I mean.

I’ll stop by again for a photo when the poinsettias are completely red. But, for today, please enjoy this pre-holiday postcard from Waimea!

Poinsettias at Anna Ranch Waimea

This is possibly my favorite photo opportunity in South Kohala--the green hills of Waimea
